Meet Rachel & Nicky

Rachel

Hello, I’m Rachel!

I live in the charming village of Colne and am a proud mother of 18-year-old twins. My career has always been centered around caring for others, and I find great fulfillment in making a positive impact on people’s lives.

With experience in domiciliary care, I take comfort in knowing that I provide the same level of care and dignity that I would want for myself or my loved ones. As a medical receptionist within the NHS, I navigated various challenges where empathy and patience were essential. Currently, I work in a care home, assisting individuals with diverse needs, including mental health support and dementia care.

Throughout my career, I have been privileged to connect with and support people, which aligns with my naturally kind and compassionate nature.

I feel incredibly lucky to have met Nicky, as we share the same values of compassion and kindness in providing at-home care.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me!

Nicky

Hello, my name is Nicky! I bought a house in Godmanchester, September 2023, I moved from a small town called Sawbridgeworth, in Hertfordshire. I love living in Godmanchester, it’s such a beautiful town and I feel very lucky to be living here. In May 2024 I got married to my husband, Ben.

As well as my love for caring for people, I have a huge love for animals, I have a cat myself! I also love cooking/baking, trying new recipes, whether it’s for dinner or making cakes and shortbreads.

My career in a care environment started in 2016 where I did a bit of housekeeping in a local nursing home. I did this after leaving my office job (which was my first proper job after college). I was actually planning on becoming a photographer!

I never had plans of working in a care environment, but working in the nursing home made me see that it could be a very rewarding job if I became a carer myself, so in January 2017 I started working as a carer in a care home, specialising in residential and dementia care. I loved working there so much, I gained my Level 2 NVQ in which I got a distinction and also gained a safeguarding adults qualification.

In 2019 I became a senior carer working alongside residents with a dementia diagnosis, half way through 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic I decided to join the NHS as a healthcare support worker, I worked on the COVID ward, working so hard to care the patients, especially when their families weren’t allowed in, I remember one day when I came in for my shift, 2 patients said how happy they were to see me because, they said, I quote, “how you genuinely care” even at one of the toughest moments of their life, suffering so much, seeing their smile has still stuck with me today. It was so heartwarming to know I know I did a good job.

I went back to work at the same care home, unfortunately the hospital didn’t work out long term due to the stress of it all. I felt the hospital career wasn’t for me. I enjoyed a couple more years in the care home. In early 2023, an opportunity came up for me to become a nurse’s assistant at a hospice, this was such a shift in my life, I had only a couple patients to look after, this is where I could spend so much time with them, making wishes come true. Playing their favorite songs whilst giving personal care, seeing them smile, one time helping organise a huge party for a terminal patient to see all his family again! It was a very emotional job, but it was by far the most rewarding job I have ever done. I knew what it meant to care, but working at the hospice really taught me 1000 ways more to care. I will never forget my time there. The house process went through much quicker than expected, so unfortunately I had to leave the hospice after moving to Godmanchester. I had to leave as the commute was too much.

Once moving to Godmanchester, I went to work in a care home that specialises in residential, dementia and nursing care. In which I met my lovely friend, Rachel. We’ve decided to become self employed and also team up together to care for the lovely people in our community. Rachel is a very compassionate, calm and caring person, in a way, I see her working ways in myself. This is why I really believe, being private carers together we will do an absolutely incredible job!

Doing this we can give so much time to those we care for.

Thank you for reading a bit about me, I’ll hopefully get to meet you one day!
